Rostered Minister Report to the Bishop
In the ELCA, rostered ministers (Ministers of Word and Sacrament and Ministers of Word and Service) serve under call and are accountable to their synod bishop, who oversees their status, call, and any concerns about their ministry or wellbeing. When difficulties or alleged disability arise, the bishop works with a small committee to investigate, provide pastoral and practical recommendations, and, if needed, adjust the minister’s roster status so that both the congregation and the pastor are cared for with fairness and compassion. Rostered Ministers are asked to complete a report to the bishop annually.
